Entrepreneur enables HR Tech adoption

Sriram Iyer, Founder & CEO, hrtech.sg

Class of 2019

Describe what you do now, and your recent accomplishments.

The NUS EMBA degree triggered my entrepreneurial instincts, which led me in 2018 to set up hrtech.sg, a Singapore-headquartered HRTech focused Market Development & Analyst firm. The singular vision of the organisation is to enable the HR Ecosystem to become more data-driven and tech-centric in its approach to drive stronger business outcomes. Also, as a way of contributing back to the community, I have joined the NUS Business School’s Management & Organisation Department as an Adjunct Faculty to teach “HR Technology” to the Masters students. In addition, as an Adjunct Faculty at Korn Ferry Academy, I have had the opportunity to train mid-career HR professionals on Technology & Analytics. I strongly believe in life-long learning to stay relevant in this VUCA world and have earned the IHRP-SP and SHRM-SCP certifications in the past 5 years to enable my clients in aligning their HR strategy to the Business and Digital Strategies better.

How has the NUS EMBA helped shape where you are and what you’re doing now?

The NUS EMBA has opened doors to newer perspectives and dimensions that have proven to be a game-changer in future-proofing my career. The right mix of classroom courses and immersive learning has indeed helped me in being exposed to the right way of doing business and succeeding in Asia. This has proven to be truly invaluable in redefining my career for the journey ahead as an entrepreneur.

What was your most memorable takeaway from the programme?

The immersive learning of visiting 24 leading corporations across 6 Asian cities as part of the program was truly memorable and insightful. Interacting with the leaders of these 24 leading global organisations provided us with valuable insights on the success strategies of doing business in Asia.

Did the programme meet or exceed your expectations? In what ways?

The NUS EMBA program truly exceeded all expectations, thanks to the world-class pedagogy. The faculty was truly best-in-class, hand-picked from across the world and they enabled us with the perfect blend of concepts and theory and supplemented them with real-life case studies, guest lectures, and industrial visits. That truly has been the secret sauce of the NUS EMBA program.

What’s your advice to other EMBA aspirants?

I always advice potential EMBA aspirants to NOT look at the NUS EMBA as a 15-month program. They need to look at it as an investment to future-proof their career. The NUS EMBA program is actually all about the camaraderie, the networks, and the lifelong learning opportunities that extends well beyond the duration of the program.
